Transformation Project

What were 2 photoshop tools you found useful to create this project? Tell me where/how you used them.

I found the "Make Path Work" tool was helpful for me to trace text that I made in photoshop and make it into a path which I would then use the "Stroke Path" with a custom cloud brush I made.

I also found the Brush Tool to be much more than it really is, it can be used with precision with the combination of paths.

Do you think this project was successful? Why or why not? Consider it both for its aesthetic (how it looks) and if it tells a compelling story (the topic/message you were inspired by).

I found this project to be successful because it helps me explore Photoshop more understanding how Photoshop differs from Illustrator.  The message is that this school can be really weird.  It looks decent in my opinion, but also weird which I wanted.  I was inspired by memes to make this and how memes can get weird and transform a school to be weird.

In step 1, you researched similar companies to the one you are branding for.

1. What company did you research? Apple, tv/computer props, godopranks
2. What colors/typography/style decisions did they make? Apple uses simple colors, style, and typography. GodoPranks and their products use fun typography, fun colors, and their style looks like the the 1950s.
3. How would you describe their brand personality? Old and with children, nothing simple. Apple has simple colors and design.

     4. What are the core values and purpose of your brand? (A brand is a promise - a

         foundation. It is the key behaviors and virtues that need to be consistently expressed. It

         is the essence or theme of the company.)

This brand promises that the pranks strengthen friendship. This brand will allow you to shortcut through life through trickery.

     5. What are the brand drivers? (detailed and descriptive aspects of the brand - attributes, functional benefits, emotional benefits, self expressive benefits, or what the customer is saying about themselves when they consume the brand. Make a list of sentences or phrases about the brand that reflect the brand’s core purpose).

  The products of this brand will be more valuable than the actual price.  This product is just what I need.  This brand is the real thing.

These images give me the idea that I want the brand to be colorful but yet serious.        

     7. Of the logos you made, which do you think reflects the values of your brand the most?       

Why?

• Add 5+ versions of the logo you developed

• Add the 3 textures you created in illustrator for your packaging

• Include 3 or more photos of your box from different angles completely assembled

Racial Equality Blog Post

What are your goals with this poster, and how have you creatively explored the topic of racial equity here at Redwood?

Our goals with this poster is to try to connect every language, race, religion, and gender under the same tree.   

How does your poster apply to your target audience? (In this case, Redwood students).

This poster targets redwood because it shows many languages saying "equality".  This poster shows that Redwood is racially equality.

What was one challenging in creating your poster? How did you solve this?

We tried tracing the words for each, but it didn't work out due to how long it took to do it and the amount of tracing errors.  We solved this by doing printouts of each word and glued it onto the draft version which had a tree, but unpainted.

What did you contribute in the production of this group project?

I contributed by looking up equality in different languages, helped tracing when we were doing it, help paint the tree and hands for the final design.

Logo Final Blog Post

How does your design represent you? (or the company/business etc you were trying to represent).

This design represents me because I love computers.

What colors did you choose? Why? How does it help to further your brand's personality?

I chose blue gold and black because I also like the golden state warriors and I feel that those colors would be appropriate for the situation, and also those colors look good together.

Why does your design work successfully as a logo? Be specific and give several examples.

I think my design works as a logo because I am able to get my name and what I am in together.  I like the blank spaces because it helps make the letters pop out.

What was one piece of feedback you received in critiques that really helped your design develop?

Making the right edge of the computer/b smooth instead of sharp.

Number 1 is the left-most logo and number 9 is the right-most logo

1 and 9. Black and white is simple to see and visually pleasing(Probably my favorite one)

2. I chose red because red is power and I like to see a computer with power

3.  I chose complimentary color the Blue and Gold seems to work well with blue(My second favorite)  This is the one from Adobe CC

4.  I chose this off of the photo of Mountain Dew pixels because I often drink mountain dew when coding at home

5.  From color lovers I chose a blue color scheme because a computer needs to be cool to have power

6.  I found this on Pinterest when I looked up computer, the problem with this is that the purple does not stand out from the blue

7.   I like to use Code Pen so I chose the logo for it and their colors are blue and green, when looking out it the blue does not pop out so if I would to go for these two base colors I would make the Blue more dark than the green

8. For my choice I chose Red and Blue because they are the perfect opposites for each other of Cool and Power which both are needed for a computer.  I went for a black screen trying a little realism, but was not very successful looking at it now.

My favorite by far is the basic Black and White because it stands out the best, my second favorite is the color I found on Adobe CC, but I can't seem to make a reason as to why these colors would go on a computer.

Letter Project

One piece of feedback that I got from the 20 sketches of my words(10 Each) was that for Tense it should be close together and they like the grateful with the big G going over the other letters

For my hand written finals, I chose to do Tense tall skinny and tight because it shows how tense it is.  For grateful I chose to do an old English G because it looked fancy showing how grateful I am.  

For my final design of my words that I did in illustrator I chose to abuse fonts for grateful and abuse the pen tool for tense.  I used one font I had to download from the internet which was Olde English and its spacing and size was focused all around the G.  For tense I made a bunch of lines with a pen tool.  I thought that this project was successful because I learned that you can replicate something on illustrator fairly easy from paper.  And I also learned that spacing and sizing creates feeling in a word.

Blog Post #4

I chose Loop from Chip Kidd because it is a great example of continuation.  In this piece the eyes of the viewer look down the hole to see the artist.  What made this design successful was that piece supports the title feeling like a loop.

The USA Network logo uses great closure because the S is never directly drawn with black like the U and the A.  I see logo's all the time that use the design principals and these design principals are not all that new to me.
